STRATEGIC PLAN OF THE
MOORPARK UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

Strategic Planning, a process of regular analysis and objective-setting which is linked to the District mission and beliefs of the community, has been in place since 1996.  Each year a broad-based Strategic Plan Team made up of parents, community and staff, assess our progress and help us refine our multi-year direction and specific focus areas for the coming year.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Moorpark Unified School District,
in partnership with business and
our diverse family-oriented community,
is committed to providing a safe, nurturing learning experience,
superior educators, and high academic standards
that produce responsible citizens,
effective communicators and
creative problem solvers
who have a passion for life-long learning and
are capable of achieving their full potential
with the skills to successfully compete
in an ever-changing global environment.

KEY GOALS AND AREAS OF EMPHASIS FOR 2011-12

·     Instruction:  Focus on a core instructional program of high standards coordinated with tiers of research-based interventions and enrichment built into the school day that challenges all students (Preschool through grade 12) to learn and closes the achievement gap. Continue collaboration among educators on common curriculum, monitoring of data, targeted instructional strategies and behavioral interventions to ensure successful learning by all students.

·     Technology
:  Expand support for teachers to utilize Active Classroom technology (digital white boards and response systems) and comprehensive software packages owned by the District (such as Successmaker) into the core instructional program and for differentiation. Implement District Technology Standards to ensure 21st century learning outcomes for students and provide related professional development for teachers.  Continue to expand communication about student progress between school and home using technology applications.  Streamline technology-based systems for implementing District assessments and internal monitoring of student progress.

·     Funding
:  Realign General Fund and Categorical Program budget priorities to support the core instructional program due to the significantly reduced District income from the state.  Continue to pursue grant funding, cost savings, community partnerships and other strategies (including support of Moorpark Foundation) to enhance income.
·     21st Century Lite
racy:  Prepare students to be “College Ready - Work Ready.”  Systematically strengthen students’ identification of interests/aptitudes, career awareness and career direction for the future.   Begin awareness experiences in elementary school and continue with specific career exploration and coursework at secondary along with support by counseling sessions and Career Center services.  Continue to integrate 21st century literacy skills and state Career Technical Standards into core curriculum areas.  Disseminate information to students and families about college and career preparation opportunities in the community and on-line.

·
Communication
:  Educate the community on “How MUSD Prepares Students for the Future” utilizing web pages, local news publications and other public relations strategies with a continued focus on paperless communication media.

MESSAGES TO COMMUNICATE
  • We challenge all students by keeping the achievement targets moving up and working to close the gap.
  • We use technology to prepare students with 21st century skills and as a tool for communication.
  • We prepare students with the academic knowledge, work-place skills and career awareness to be college ready – work ready.”
  • In these fiscally challenging times, we can let our legislators know our views about funding for public education and we can support local fund-raising efforts.
